Japans Fishing Industry Hit Hard after the Tsunami

After the tsunami hit Japan earlier this year, one thing that caught everyone’s attention was the tsunami hit nuclear plant in the country. But one more thing that should’ve been a hot topic of discussion but was not was the seafood industry. What once were the seafaring towns, fishing towns is now nothing else but towns of tranquillity. One such town is Kesennuma. The town’s life sustaining businesses of fish quays, processing and packaging plants are now abandoned and eerie harbours.

Gap A Spot In New Business Market

Anyone who travels on the London underground hears the three words often just before the doors open. Like those travelers, entrepreneurs always need to be spotting gaps. It always makes me think of moving people from one place to another. Predicting gaps that are emerging is where there is most opportunity.

A gap to an entrepreneur must be defined as something that not being supplied, or supplied well, which can or will satisfy a frustrated need. The same product at a better price through more efficiency of production might be the gap you are looking for. Often if there is something not currently available it could be because nobody wants it. You might be in a long list of entrepreneurs who stumbled upon this idea only to then lose your risk capital. Marketing versus Sales
Marketing and sales are actually two different processes that need to be undertaken simultaneously since one cannot succeed without some efforts from the other process.

Without marketing, it is true to argue that you cannot be in a position to promote sales. Marketing is actually everything that you do to persuade customers to buy your products. You are supposed to be very convincing to customers trying to explain the full details of your products so that they create a positive attitude towards them and actually become your permanent customers.

Word of Mouth Marketing

Word of mouth means that a satisfied customer tells acquaintances, friends, and family how good your product or service is. Word of mouth is considered one of the most powerful forms of marketing because it has more influence over people’s purchasing decisions than does adver­tising. In addition, Michael E. Caffery, author of Let Your Customers Do the Talking, claims that 80 percent of people use recommendations from “a family member, friend or business professional” (Caffery, 1997). If word of mouth is this effective, it should be an integral part of any marketing program. (more…)
