On Friday at the tea party Michele Bachmann’s campaign struck back. At the tea party the affiliated group persuaded the Minnesota congresswoman to end her presidential run. The candidate herself suggested that the rival candidate Rick Perry can be behind the ambush. On the channel CNN’s show ‘The Situation Room’, Bachmann said, “People have told us, that these are Perry supporters and they went out with this and this was meant to be a stealth move and it was clumsy. If Governor Perry has something to stay to me, he can come out to the debates and he can say it.” Spokesman for Perry, Mark Miner in an email written to CBN news and The National journal as a response, he denied that the Texas governor’s camp had any relation or link with the call made to Michele Bachmann asking her to quit. He said, “We learned about this through media reports today and had nothing to do with the group’s decision.”

Representative Michele Bachman was surprised to know that her entire campaign staff of New Hampshire resigned in masse even though they had not been paid for a month. This was told to ABC news by one of the staffers on October, 21st, 2011. However, when Bachman was contacted about her reactions on the mass resignation, she told Iowa radio that she is not aware that any of her staffs have left. She called up her New Hampshire office and got herself confirmed that the news is not true. She said that it could be one of the conspiracies of any rival candidate or campaign, but as per her calls with the New Hampshire office, she certainly got herself confirmed that it is not true.
In the 1970s a song about the snowbirds flying from the north to a land with a gentle breeze was popularized by Anne Murray, a Canadian singer. Since then the word ‘snowbird’ has come to be associated with the retirees who descend from the northern climes and spend a large part of the year in the Sun Belt of the U.S. A large number of such ‘snowbirds’, hail from Canada. This week, a bill was introduced by Sens. Mike Lee, R-Utah, and Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. This bill is aimed at providing the renovation of the immigration laws which was very much needed. The bill is supported by all of us; however you cannot find anything comprehensive about the short list of technical fixes for the visa system that the bill has enumerated. Most of the technical fixes focus on facilitating tourism and high-end business travel.

The legislation has been given the name ‘the snowbird visa bill’ because if the legislation is passed the biggest winners will be the well- heeled retirees from Canada who are looking for bargains in the real estate in the real estate markets of the Sun Belt which are badly busted. The bill has an entire section dedicated to the creation of Canadian Retiree Visa for the Canadians who are above 50 years of age and who own or rent property in the U.S.
The bill has a very creative part which offers residence visas to any foreigner who qualifies through the standard criminal and other security checks and uses cash to purchase real estate worth at least $500,000. Of this value at least $250,000 has to go into purchase of residence. The conditions behind this visa for home purchaser are that the foreigner should spend at least half of the year in the United States and he must pay the taxes. However, he will not be allowed to work and will not have any access to the benefits of the U.S. government. The visa does not provide a path to the citizenship of U.S. This home purchaser visa will allow
the spouses and the children (minor) to enter U.S. on the similar conditions as applicable to the home purchaser. The ones who will be able to realistically take advantage of this new visa scheme will be the Canadians, who because of a pretty decent economy and also a strong exchange rate already account for almost one- fourth of the foreign home purchasers in U.S.
Bankruptcy filing in United States – know your options
Filing for bankruptcy under United States bankruptcy laws can be a harrowing experience if you are not eligible for filing. Therefore, you need to know the different terms and conditions that make you eligible for filing under different chapters. Chapter 7 is tough and many do not qualify for it. Chapters 11 and 13 are easier to file. However they are long drawn processes while chapter 7 wraps up your dues quickly. Nevertheless, you lose a major part of your assets. There are several other chapters in the bankruptcy laws but these are the most commonly used.
Eligibility for Chapter 7
In order to qualify for Chapter 7, you need to be a citizen of America and pass the mean test. The mean test is a measure of your total income and it should be lower than the median income for your category mentioned in the state information website. In order to calculate your disposable income, you have to subtract certain basic allowances like clothing, food and mandatory payments like taxes and penalties. If your disposable income is less than $100, then you qualify for Chapter 7. (more…)
